According to the stories, Remus and his twin brother Romulus were the founders of present-day Rome. They were the sons of a priestess named Rhea Silvia and were said to have been fathered by the god of war, Mars. As children, the twin boys were nursed and raised by a female wolf. Remus was murdered by his brother, which is why Rome is named after his sibling and not Remus. In more recent years, the name is Remus is known because of J.K Rowling's 'Harry Potter' series, in which there is a character called Remus John Lupin.
